Very great , but with a few design issues
I bought this RDA after looking for the original G.R.1 for the longest time without any luck. I don't own the original obviously, but I will compare to it in terms of build deck and such.
First off, let me just break down what comes in the box:
1 x GR1 S rda (squonk pin pre-installed)
2 x allen keys (of different sizes)
1 x tiny flat head screwdriver
1 x bag of extras including: 1 x normal 510 pin, 4 x tiny clear o-rings (for the pin), 1 x black o-ring (for the deck/top cap), 1 x screw (for the positive post) and 4 x extra post screws.
Starting off with the positives, this small little rda gives pretty great . For reference, I am running a simple 0.55 ohms round wire ni80 build at 30-35 watts. It's a slightly warm , but not "burn your taste buds off completely"-level. I have yet to try bigger builds, but I would expect it to do best with something simple and bigger coils might not even be possible. I will get back to that later.
They have added two extra post screws as opposed to the original GR1 which is nice to see, so that you can wrap coils either direction and still be able to insert the coil however way you like.
They did not however add a tiny edge to the area where you insert the coil, so it might slip out as you try to tighten it down. I didn't struggle too much with this, but it would have been a nice added feature.
Now, regarding the issues with bigger coils, this is where the deck and the posts comes in to play. The gap for putting in you coils is quite slim, but pretty wide, so you could probably only really fit really flat builds or simple round wire builds. That being said the chamber is small enough, where that is already going to be your best bet anyways.
The external design is always personal preference, but I personally love the style of it, with the knurled metal bottom and the black top cap. It goes pretty nicely with my Dovpo Topside Dual. The top cap however is pretty and doesn't sit very tightly on the deck. This seems to be for the fact that the deck only has one o-ring and I can see that having two would not have been possible with how short the deck is, but I wouldn't have minded had the rda been slightly taller, if it meant the top cap was more secure.
My final complaint is the drip tip. Personally I don't really mind it too much, but it is build into the top cap, meaning it's proprietary and it also very, very short. Now, I don't have super big lips, but I can see how it might be annoying for a lot of people. Not being able to use your own drip tips kind of sucks too.
Overall, despite me having quite a few complaints I still would give it 3,5 stars. The is simply that good for the price. I would say it sits within the same market as the Wasp Nano in terms of pricing and target group. That being said, I think the is better in this than the Wasp Nano and the build quality seems slightly better too. If you can overcome the few complaints I mentioned here and is looking for a good rda, this is not a bad choice.
